The fishing is some of the best you'll ever experience!

The Kuskokwim (which has the largest return of King Salmon in Alaska) and Aniak rivers are truly unique, with the widest variety of game fish Alaska offers. Kings average 20 to 30 pounds, with some tipping the scales at 60 or 70 pounds. In addition, the fishery also offers the monsterous Rainbow Trout that runs up to 7 pounds.

The Kuskokwim also boasts the largest run of Silver (Coho) Salmon in the state, and of all the tributaries of the Kuskokwim, the Aniak is the largest producer of Silvers. There is no better place to boat or beach these hard fighting bullets from the saltwater. With salmon always seeming to get top billing in Alaska, our Rainbow, Dolly, Char, and Grayling fishing often gets overlooked, but fishing for these resident species is as good as it gets anywhere, and offers a challenging and entertaining option to fighting salmon all day.

In fact, we don't know how good the Rainbow and Char fishing is in the upper reaches of the Aniak. Most of this water is virgin, unexplored territory, so if you're into big Rainbows, Dollies, and Char, their guides will leap at the chance to make a run up stream for "new" adventure.

Last, but not least, is the unique opportunity to fish for trophy class Pike and Shee Fish. Also available to our guests is the option to fly out to the neighboring lakes and rivers to sample these excellent fisheries and enjoy a bird's eye view of some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth.

All fishing is done from jet boats, or a combination of boat and bank angling, depending on prevailing river conditions and desired species.

Whether you're a spin or a fly angler, you will find their staff of guides knowledgeable, courteous, and committed to providing you with the best all-around experience possible. Don't forget that Alaska has extra-long summer days providing all the time needed to play that special fish.

The Aniak River Lodge sport fishing package includes transportation from the Aniak Airport (with daily commuter jet service available), lodging, daily housekeeping, meals, boat, and guide service. Fly outs are available at additional cost.

What Equipment to Bring

Fly Rods 8 1/2 - 9 1/2-foot, #4,5,6 & 7 line rods are ideal for most fishing; #8, 9 & 10 line rods are appropriate for King Salmon.
Fly Reels Reliable, single-action fly reels having a minimum of 50 yards of backing.
Leaders & Tippets Short (7 1/2 - 9-foot) stiff strong leaders with appropriate extra tippet material. A suggested assortment would be four each of 7 1/2 - 9-foot, 3x and 2x leaders and tippet material 3x - 0x.
Spinning Rods 6 1/2 - 8 1/2-foot, medium action. Each angler should bring at least two rods.
Wading Gear Hip boots may be used. However, we strongly recommend felt-soled chest waders, wading socks, and belt.
Clothing Be prepared for a full range of weather. From June through September daytime temperatures can range from 40 to 90 degrees F. Bring with you long underwear (polypropylene is best), long and short-sleeved shirts, shorts, sweater, rain jacket (high quality, subdued color), hat, fingerless wool gloves, comfortable camp shoes, jacket (down, thinsulate, or pile), bathrobe, shower thongs, toiletries, and insect repellant.
Fishing Licenses Licenses and general grocery items may be purchased in Aniak.
We support an active catch and release program of all fresh water species. Since millions of salmon are commercially harvested in the area, a limited catch of salmon may be taken home. We will freeze and pack your fish in a wet lock-box ready for air shipment.
